Terms of Service
Effective date: October 20, 2026
Last updated: October 20, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of InkOut at inkoutpdf.com (the "Service"). InkOut ("InkOut", "we", "us" and "our") operates inkoutpdf.com. By using the Service, or by purchasing InkOut Pro when it is offered, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. The Service
InkOut is a browser-based tool for redacting PDF files. You can draw redaction boxes, export a redacted copy and run an automatic check that looks for text left under the redacted areas. A separate redaction checker lets you inspect any PDF.
Free: up to 5 pages per file, manual redaction boxes, automatic verification and the redaction checker. No account or sign-up is required.
InkOut Pro, when available, adds unlimited pages per file, keyword search-and-redact and processing multiple files at once. Pro is planned as two options:
| Plan | Price | Billing |
|---|---|---|
| Pro 24-hour pass | US$4.99 | One-time payment. Pro access lasts 24 hours from first activation and does not renew. |
| Pro Monthly | US$7.99 per month | Subscription that renews automatically every month until you cancel. |
The price that applies to your order is the one shown at checkout when you place it. Prices are in US dollars, and sales tax or VAT may be added at checkout depending on where you live. Our pricing page shows whether Pro can be purchased.
2. Your files stay on your device
InkOut processes your PDFs locally in your web browser. Your files, page images and extracted text are not uploaded to our servers, and we never see or store them. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of your original and redacted files.
If you purchase Pro, activating, checking or removing Pro on a device sends your license key and a random device identifier to our licensing service. Our licensing service then sends your license key and a random activation ID, but not your device identifier or IP address, to Creem's license API. None of this includes the contents of your files. See our Privacy Policy for details.
3. Check every redaction before you share it
Redaction is only as good as what you mark. Before sharing a redacted file, review the output and the verification result yourself. In particular:
- When you redact a page, InkOut converts that page to an image. Text on that page can no longer be selected or searched, and links, form fields and annotations on that page are removed. Files may get larger.
- Keyword redaction (a Pro feature) only finds text in the PDF's text layer. It cannot find text inside scanned pages or images (there is no OCR), so redact those areas manually.
- Keyword boxes are positioned automatically and may not fully cover every match, especially with unusual fonts.
InkOut is a tool, not legal advice. You decide what must be redacted and whether the result meets any legal, court, regulatory or contractual requirement that applies to you.
4. Acceptable use
You may use InkOut only for lawful purposes. You must not:
- process files that you have no right to possess, edit or share, or that infringe someone else's intellectual property, privacy or other rights;
- use the Service to conceal, alter or falsify documents for fraud, to obstruct legal proceedings or for any other unlawful purpose;
- interfere with, overload, probe or attack the Service, or try to bypass usage limits or license checks;
- copy, resell, sublicense or redistribute the Service, or share a license key you receive beyond the devices it allows.
You are solely responsible for the files you process and for how you use the results.
5. Purchases, billing and Creem
If you purchase Pro, the purchase is processed by Creem (Armitage Labs OĆ), our online reseller and Merchant of Record. Creem sells Pro to you, takes payment, issues your invoice or receipt, and calculates and collects applicable taxes. Your purchase is also subject to Creem's Buyer Terms and Creem's Privacy Notice. The charge appears on your statement under Creem's name (for example "CREEM.IO* STORE"), not InkOut.
After you purchase, Creem emails you a receipt with your license key and a link to the Creem customer portal, where you can also find your key. You use the license key to activate Pro on your device.
How long the 24-hour pass lasts. A 24-hour pass is valid for 24 hours from the first time you activate it on a device, as recorded by InkOut. This applies even if the Creem customer portal or your receipt shows the license differently, for example as "never expires".
Device limit. Each license key can be activated on up to 2 devices at the same time for a 24-hour pass, and on up to 3 devices at the same time for Pro Monthly.
If you subscribe to Pro Monthly, you authorize Creem to charge your payment method each month at the then-current price until you cancel. If we change the subscription price, we'll tell you by email before it applies to you, and you can cancel before the new price takes effect.
6. Cancelling a subscription
If you subscribe to Pro Monthly, you can cancel at any time:
- in the Creem customer portal: open the link in your Creem receipt email, or go to creem.io/my-orders/login and sign in with the email you used to purchase; or
- by emailing support@inkoutpdf.com and we'll cancel it for you.
After you cancel, you won't be charged again and Pro stays active until the end of the billing period you've already paid for. The 24-hour pass does not renew, so there is nothing to cancel.
7. Refunds
Refunds for Pro purchases are covered by our Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms. All refunds are issued by Creem to your original payment method.
8. Intellectual property
InkOut, including its software, design, text and branding, belongs to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service under these Terms. Your files remain yours. We claim no rights in them.
9. Disclaimer
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that every redaction or verification result will be complete or accurate. Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you. This section doesn't affect any statutory rights that can't be excluded by law.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, business or reputation, including loss caused by information you failed to redact; and
- our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid for InkOut in the 12 months before the claim arose and (b) US$50.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for (a) gross negligence or willful misconduct, (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, (c) death or personal injury, or (d) any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. Nor do these Terms affect any statutory consumer rights you have in your country of residence.
11. Suspension and termination
You can stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms or if we must do so to comply with the law. If you have purchased Pro, this may include deactivating your license key, and we may also do so if a payment is reversed or fraudulent. If we end your paid access without cause, we'll refund the unused part of what you paid. We may change or discontinue features of the Service. If we discontinue Pro after you have paid for it, we'll stop future renewals and refund any prepaid period you can no longer use.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll post the new version on this page and change the "Last updated" date. If a change materially affects paying subscribers, we'll give them notice by email before it applies. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms, and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them or the Service, are governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China (excluding, for this purpose, the laws of the Hong Kong SAR, the Macao SAR and Taiwan), without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any such dispute will be submitted to the competent people's court at the place where the operator of InkOut is domiciled.
This choice of law and forum does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer laws where you live:
- If you are a consumer habitually resident in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you keep the protection of the provisions of the law of your country of residence that cannot be excluded by agreement, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live.
- If you are a consumer in the United States, you keep any rights under your state's consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
Payment, invoicing and tax matters for any purchase are also governed by Creem's Buyer Terms. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
